MILAN - CASCINA-GOBBA ROAD JUNCTION
… a road junction in soft soils underwater context …
The Cascina Gobba junction represents an important interchange point between the North - South motorway flow and the primary transversal road system such as via Palmanova and the former SS 11.
The redevelopment of the Cascina Gobba junction along the East Milan bypass extends for about 1.5 km.
The project involves the construction of a series of new ramps, the upgrading of some existing ramps and the construction of a new northbound exit at the hospital complex of the San Raffaele hospital.
The road junction develops entirely in trenches underwater, the main work is a cut-and-cover tunnel about 450 m long.
The work was found to be extremely complex for the presence of incoherent soil (sand and gravel) and underwater excavation in an extremely variable hydrogeological context. The presence of some close buildings and the metro-San Raffaele next to the excavations, completed the project framework.
Andrea Antiga, as Soil’s Technical Director, signed the “detailed design” and the “detailed design for construction” for the completion works. He was also responsible for assistance during construction.
